Who this suits
Grid-tied commercial generation where the objective is cutting daytime consumption rather than backup. A 20kW three-phase string inverter with 3 MPPTs suits a business roof with arrays on more than one plane or orientation, since each MPPT tracks its own string independently.
Before you buy, check
- This is grid-tie, not hybrid. It does not charge a battery and it does not run your loads during an outage. If you need backup, you need a hybrid or a storage inverter alongside it.
- Your roof planes. Three MPPTs is the feature you are paying for. If the array sits on one plane facing one way, a simpler inverter may serve.
- SSEG approval. Grid-tied generation must be registered with your municipality or Eskom before commissioning.
What else you will need
Panels and mounting, DC protection and isolation, AC protection, and the SSEG application with a Certificate of Compliance on completion. SMA’s monitoring is worth configuring properly at handover.
