A complete 6kW hybrid kit, inverter, battery, panels and mounting, is R52 100 including VAT as a supply-only package. It is R670 more than the 5kW and gives you an extra panel and a bigger inverter, which makes it the better buy of the two in almost every case.
Why 6kW is usually better value than 5kW
The 5kW kit is R51 430 and the 6kW kit is R52 100. For R670 you get 20% more inverter capacity and an extra 600W panel. There is very little reason to choose the 5kW unless the inverter has to fit a specific space or an existing design.
This is the sort of thing a price list shows you and a sales conversation often does not.
What is in the 6kW kit
- Deye SUN-6K-SG03LP1 hybrid inverter, single phase
- Dyness 5.12 kWh LV lithium battery
- 6 x 600W-class panels, 3.7 kWp of array
- Corrosion-resistant aluminium rail mounting for tile, IBR or cliplock roofs
What a 6kW system runs
Lights, plugs, WiFi, TV, fridge, freezer, and more headroom than the 5kW for a microwave or kettle without tripping. The 5.12 kWh battery is the limiting factor rather than the inverter, so this is a system that saves well during the day and covers the essentials at night.
If you need to carry a geyser through an outage, the honest answer is more battery, not more inverter.
What is not in that price
This is a supply-only price for the equipment. A working installed system also needs:
- DC and AC isolators, breakers, fuses and surge protection
- Battery communication and current-transformer leads, and the monitoring dongle where it is not supplied with the unit
- DC and AC cabling, MC4 connectors, earthing and bonding
- Distribution board work, and often a DB upgrade
- Installation labour and commissioning
- Certificate of Compliance, and SSEG or municipal registration where your council requires it

Questions about 6kW solar systems
How much does a 6kW solar system cost in South Africa?
R52 100 including VAT for the complete kit: 6kW hybrid inverter, 5.12 kWh battery, 6 panels at 3.7 kWp and mounting. Supply only, with installation and compliance quoted separately.
Is a 6kW system better than a 5kW?
For R670 more you get 20% more inverter capacity and an extra panel, so in most cases yes. The battery is the same, so the difference is daytime capacity and headroom, not backup time.
How many panels does a 6kW system need?
Six 600W-class panels, which is 3.7 kWp. The array is deliberately smaller than the inverter rating because panels rarely hit their nameplate figure in real conditions.
Is 6kVA the same as 6kW?
Close enough for buying purposes on a hybrid inverter, where the power factor is near 1. kVA is apparent power and kW is real power. South African sellers use the terms interchangeably and you will see both on the same product.
What will a 6kW system save me a month?
It depends entirely on your tariff and how much you use during daylight. A 3.7 kWp array makes roughly 15 to 18 kWh on a clear day. What that is worth depends on what you are paying per unit, which is why we will not publish a single savings number.
Does the price include installation?
No. Prices are supply only. TSN Kunye also installs, from single homes to multi-megawatt commercial projects, so you can ask for an installed quote instead.
