10kW versus 8kW: what the extra R18 320 buys
The 8kW kit is R105 860 and the 10kW is R124 180. The battery is the same 10.24 kWh in both. What you are buying is 2kW more inverter and four more panels, 8.7 kWp against 6.2 kWp.
So the 10kW generates more during the day and runs more at once, but it does not last longer in an outage. If your problem is load-shedding rather than the bill, put the difference into a second battery on the 8kW instead.
What a 10kW system runs
A four bedroom house with the usual load: lights, plugs, fridges, freezers, TVs, WiFi, a washing machine and a dishwasher, with headroom for a geyser element on a controller during the day. 8.7 kWp of array is enough to run heavy daytime loads straight off the sun rather than from the battery, which is where the real saving comes from.
What is not in that price
This is a supply-only price for the equipment. A working installed system also needs:
- DC and AC isolators, breakers, fuses and surge protection
- Battery communication and current-transformer leads, and the monitoring dongle where it is not supplied with the unit
- DC and AC cabling, MC4 connectors, earthing and bonding
- Distribution board work, and often a DB upgrade
- Installation labour and commissioning
- Certificate of Compliance, and SSEG or municipal registration where your council requires it
At 8.7 kWp the array is large enough that roof layout, string design and shading start to matter materially. That is a site visit, not a price list.

How much does a 10kW solar system cost in South Africa?
R124 180 including VAT for the complete kit: Sunsynk Lynks Pro 10kW inverter, 10.24 kWh battery, 14 panels at 8.7 kWp and mounting. Supply only.
How many panels does a 10kW system need?
Fourteen 600W-class panels, 8.7 kWp. At that size you need roughly 35 to 40 square metres of usable roof facing north, north-east or north-west.
Is 10kW worth it over 8kW?
If your bill is the problem, yes, because the bigger array generates more. If load-shedding is the problem, no, because the battery is identical. Spend the difference on storage instead.
Is this single phase or three phase?
This package is single phase. If your property is on a three-phase supply, that changes the inverter selection, so talk to us before ordering.
Do I need SSEG approval for a 10kW system?
In most South African municipalities, yes, for any grid-tied system. At 10kW some councils also require a professional sign-off. The requirement, the fee and the lead time vary, which is why it is on the not-included list rather than buried.
